Blog #3 - Programming
It was Sunday, the day that several students participants get together with Arun, the lead programming mentor. These students gradually built a strong relationship fueled by their dedication and passion in programming. These students formed the programming team at Phoenix, and like always, they were eager and ready to learn.
First, Arun went over the programming assignments he assigned to each student, based on their specific level, from last time. These assignments are meant to build the solid programming foundations that every programmer requires. Additionally, these assignments teach the students the fundamentals of programming through fun, challenging problems.
After going over the assignments, Arun wanted to implement a new way of organizing and documenting everything in programming. He did this by using Google Drive to create shared folders to store documents and resources. Essentially, this was a centralized file sharing system that will help in documentation for easy access and future reference.
In addition, to assigning problems to each student of the programming team, Arun also assigned subtasks specializing on the interests and strengths of each student. For instance, the tasks that were assigned included a PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) System presentation to teach the rest, tracing and writing down what the code does, a GRIP vision tracking presentation and more.
Even with the huge successes from the previous rookie-year in FIRST, the team is striving to be even better than before. In this upcoming year, the Phoenix programming team is aiming high by taking initiatives in integrating vision tracking into the robot, as well as attempting to use PID system.
Overall, the programming team at Phoenix is more excited than ever to compete together in the upcoming 2017-2018 year of FIRST Robotics!
